Jackson Hole's cycling season doesn't end when the snow flies. Fat biking — riding on ultra-wide tires designed to float over snow — opens up a whole new world of winter riding.
Where to Ride
Groomed Nordic ski trails often allow fat biking (check trail rules first). Snowmobile-groomed forest roads and packed pathways offer miles of winter riding. Cache Creek and nearby national forest roads are popular once snow-packed.
What to Wear
Layer up: a moisture-wicking base, insulating mid-layer, and wind-blocking shell. Warm gloves and good socks are critical — fingers and toes go first in the cold. A balaclava and clear glasses protect your face from wind and blowing snow.
Tire Pressure
The magic of fat biking is low tire pressure — often under 5 psi — which lets the tire conform to the snow for grip and float. Experiment to find the sweet spot for conditions.
