A Jackson Hole mountain bike trip is a bucket-list adventure — but the altitude, terrain, and logistics require some planning. Here's how to set yourself up for an epic trip.
Timing
Trail conditions dictate everything. Lower trails like Cache Creek often open by late May or early June; high-alpine rides like Teton Pass and Game Creek may not be rideable until July. Late June through September is the safest bet for a first trip.
Fitness
Altitude humbles everyone. Build a solid cardio base before you arrive, and plan easier rides for your first few days while you acclimate. Don't schedule Teton Pass on day one.
What to Pack
Beyond your bike and kit: a good hydration pack, extra layers for changing mountain weather, sunscreen, bear spray, a basic repair kit, and a trail map or GPS. Rent a quality bike locally if you don't want to travel with yours.
Plan Your Trails
Start with Cache Creek and the pathways to get your legs and acclimate. Build up to Snow King or Teton Village bike park. Save Teton Pass and big backcountry loops for when you're feeling strong and acclimated.
