While everyone flocks to Cache Creek and Teton Pass, Munger Mountain quietly offers some of the most rewarding backcountry riding in the valley — with a fraction of the crowds.
The Climb
The ride starts with a steady grunt up a forest road through aspen groves and open sagebrush. It's a real climb — expect 1,500+ feet of gain — but the grade is mostly rideable for fit cyclists.
The Descent
At the top, singletrack delivers a fast, rooty, and occasionally technical descent back toward the valley floor. The trail mixes open meadow cruising with tight tree sections, and the Teton views from the upper reaches are spectacular.
When to Go
Munger typically opens a bit later than Cache Creek due to snow and mud. Mid-summer through early fall is prime. Bring a map or GPS — the network can be confusing for first-timers.
